Please understand that any separation is painful for me. Remember this before you pick me up and take me to my new home. I will be uncomfortable and frightened at first. Give me time to understand you and what you want from me. Love me like family because in my eyes you are my new mom.

Don't be angry with me for too long and don't lock me up as punishment. Please don't hit me because I am small and defenseless. I can't hit back, but I can scratch and bite. I do not want to do that. Be aware of how you treat me. I will never forget.

Please do not pick me up by the scruff of my neck just because my mommy used to when I was a baby. I weighed just a few ounces then, and now I weigh a few pounds.

Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps another cat has upset me or I am having trouble digesting my food. Maybe I am just feeling sick.

If you take good care of me I will live to be 10 - 20 years old. I hope you will take good care of me when I am old, too. You have your work, your family and your friends. I have only you.
